Update on LACABA’s Status from the Board of Directors

We are following through on the earlier announcement concerning the future of LACABA.  As announced, we were prepared to place the organization into a dormant status for at least six months starting January 2008, pending a possible formal dissolution.

We invited anyone or any group to submit a plan to keep the organization functioning to submit that plan by October 31.  We are sorry to report that we received no such plans or any new volunteers.

It is therefore with great reluctance and regret that the Board of LACABA announces we will begin the dormancy period effective January 1, 2008.  We will not plan a program for 2008 nor will we collect dues.  Dues that have already been submitted for 2008 will be returned by the end of this year.

Several people have asked why we are entering a dormant period rather than merely pulling the plug.   The reasons we mentioned in the original announcement are still valid:

§   Despite the lack of response, we continue to be hopeful we can find a way to keep the organization alive and functioning

§   Our job board continues to be successful and effective so we want to provide this service as long as we can

§   We will maintain www.lacaba.org during this period so we can refer interested parties to the site for current information

§   We need this time to formulate the formal dissolution procedure and plan for a final vote of our members
